Gary Hefferman Obituary

Gary R. Hefferman, 81 of Sandy Lake Twp, Stoneboro, entered the presence of his Lord on December 30, 2019, with his family at his side. He was born in Franklin on October 1, 1938 to the late Quinn “Ellery” and Iva (Reed) Hefferman. After graduating from Lakeview High School, Gary worked for the New York Central Railroad, continuing his career with them for 43 years. Gary served as the local representative of the United Transportation for 14 years. He spent many years serving as a Director for The Great Stoneboro Fair, was a member of Lake Lodge F & AM #434, and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. He also served as the Vice President of Lakeview Rail Heritage Park. Gary loved the Lord and attending the Oak Grove Church. He enjoyed gardening and working outdoors. His main love was his family and spending time with them. The light of his life was his great-granddaughter, Maddie, he loved being a Papa. Gary is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Vivian Steinlechner, whom he married on April 19, 1958; two daughters Diane Patterson of Stoneboro and Lisa Sok (Robert) of Virginia; granddaughter Meghan Alexander (Greg) of Stoneboro; great-granddaughter Madison Alexander; two sisters Phyllis Gilliland (David) and Shirley Nagel; brother-in-law Richard Steinlechner (Norma); as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two grandsons, Christian and Haley; two brothers James and Robert; son-in-law Walter D. Patterson; sister-in-law Elsie Hefferman; mother and father-in-law Charles and Hazel Steinlechner; and sister-in-law Janet. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Home of Stoneboro, 99 Franklin Street, where family and friends are welcome from 1-3 pm on Sunday, January 5, 2020. A Masonic service will follow visitation. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Ritchey and Rev. Richard Steinlechner officiating.
