Marian Osborne Obituary

Marian Osborne, 92 ½ , passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 2:48 AM in Orchard Manor, Grove City, PA. Marian was born to George Haggerty and LeIda Saul Slater on August 8th, 1925 in, New Vernon Township, Mercer County, PA. She graduated from Sandy Lake High School in 1943 and later, Maison Felix School of Cosmetology, Pittsburgh. She was employed at Claffey’s Beauty Shop in Pittsburgh, followed by Schreck’s Beauty shop in Cochranton. She was a member of the former Carpenter’s Corners Church of Christ, now known as Emmanuel Christian Church, Stoneboro, PA, where she was involved with the ladies Missionary Society. Marian was a loving soul who thrived on family gatherings and attending church with her church family. She had a true gift of conversation and enjoyed talking with others. She was well-known for her baking and sewing talents; specializing in coconut – cream pies, homemade rolls, scalloped potatoes, potato salad and her famous watermelon boats. Marian made many of her own dresses, bridesmaid dresses and lined suits. Above all, she was so proud of her family and loved them all beyond measure! She married her beloved, Richard Powell Osborne on October 10, 1947 and lived 6 years near Perrine’s Corners in a small apartment above the Osborne Country Store. Their family then moved into their new bungalow, brick ranch home on Route 358, Stoneboro. Richard preceded her in death on September 26th, 1989. Marian is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Cheryl Ann (Gary) McCartney of Sandy Lake, Mrs. Dixie Lea (Rick) Miller of Stoneboro and Mrs. Charlotte Lynn (Darrell) Hunter of Erie. Her surviving grandchildren are Tracey Osborne, Mercer, Tina (Steve) Shacklock, Mercer, Shelby (Jason) McCartney – Snyder, New Vernon Township, Ashley Hunter, Surprise, AZ, Ryan McCartney, Tionesta, Mark (Mary) Voorhees, Mercersburg, PA, Luke Miller, Stoneboro, PA, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, a dear sister-in-law, Mrs. Norma Slater, Murfreesboro, TN, brother-in-law Mr. Don (Becky) Osborne, Saegertown, PA, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Marian was preceded in death by a son, Loren Richard Osborne, her siblings: Harry Slater, Fred (Ruth) Slater, Broderick (Frances) and Loren Slater. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Black Funeral Home, Stoneboro. Family and friends are welcome at the Emmanuel Christian Church, 4495 Greenville-Sandy Lake Road, Stoneboro on Monday, February 19, from 9 am until 11 am. A service will follow visitation in the church at 11 am on Monday with Timothy M. Clark, church minister, officiating.
