Nancy E. (Lester) Harig

Nancy E. (Lester) Harig, 82, died on Thursday, July 25, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Nancy was born January 11, 1937, in Grove City, PA, to George and Loretta Lester. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Russell, Donald, and Kenneth, sister Mildred, and great-granddaughter, Adrianne Marie Harig-Oliva. Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Donald D. Harig, whom she married on August 25, 1961; her sons Alan (Joanne), David (Mary), Philip, and Paul; 9 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Nancy earned her degree in Nursing from Youngstown State University in 1955 and her BSN in Public Health Nursing from Case Western Reserve University in 1960. She worked at the Youngstown Hospital for many years, was the Administrator of the Mahoning County Health Department from 1973 to 1977, was an instructor at Youngstown State University, Crawford County Vo-Tech School, and was a beloved Assistant Professor of Nursing at Thiel College from 1984 to 2001. Nancy was known by all as a caring and compassionate teacher and friend. She devoted many hours to Coolspring Presbyterian Church as an organist, choir member, Sunday school teacher, and elder. She loved to play the piano. During her career, she was involved in community events in the Youngstown and Greenville area. Above all, her family was her first priority, and her sons and their families, especially her grandchildren, were her pride and joy. Visitation will be held Monday, July 29, 2019, from 5 to 7 pm and Tuesday, July 30, 2019, from 10 am until time of service at Black Funeral Home of SANDY LAKE, 3236 S Main Street, the funeral service will be held at 11 am with the Reverend Philip Chalfant, Retired Pastor, Officiating.
