Robert Throop Obituary

Robert Samuel Throop, of Pebble Beach, California, formerly of Stoneboro, died peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2018 with his wife Karen by his side. He had open heart surgery at age 55 and was ‘thrilled to live past his 80th birthday’ (he had said at Chomp where they took great care of him). Bob was born August 14, 1937 in Stoneboro, Pa to Frank E. and Eloise C. Woodall Throop, Sr. He went into the Navy at age 18 and was trained in electronics. He worked on Navy crew flights and flew all over the world, stationed at Moffett Field in Mountain View and flying from Hickham Air Base in Honolulu to what he called, “places nobody else would go.” He truly loved the U.S. Navy and recently attended the Navy Birthday Ball, a highlight of his last year. Bob worked at Raytheon for several years then became the CEO of Anthem Electronics in San Jose at the age of 39. He took them from pre-bankruptcy to listing on the New York Stock Exchange. Bob belonged to the Young Presidents Organization for 11 years. Loving golf, he joined The Peninsula Golf and Country Club in 1978 and became a proprietary member of Monterey Peninsula Country Club in 1992. Bob is survived by his only child, Steven Frank Throop, 6 grandchildren, Nigil (Stacy), Llylyn, Collin, Sersi, Llyvella and Graham Throop, and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife Karen and his stepchildren Kim Lanterman McChane (Eric Lewis) and Dena Lanterman Heinze (Chris) and their children Maggie McChane and Stefi and Niki Heinze. Bob’s older brother Frank Throop, Stoneboro, PA and Bob’s two nieces: Wendy Rodgers of Greenville, PA and Claudia (Michael) Mugg, Hubbard, OH. A memorial service for Bob will take place in California at The Peninsula Golf and Country Club on Wednesday, February 28th at 11 a. m.
