Dorothy Alice (Krider) Porter

Dorothy Alice (Krider) Porter, 75 of Meadville, passed away on March 5, 2024 at Meadville Medical Center surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born in Meadville on March 24, 1948 to the late Edward and Helen (Smith) Krider.

Dorothy grew up on a three-generation dairy farm in Vernon Twp and graduated from Meadville High School. She always assisted her mother with daily tasks and especially enjoyed flower gardening. She was active in 4-H in her younger years being talented in sewing and cooking. She was associated with the Watson Run Presbyterian Church where she attended many church functions in her youth. She joined the Grange as a teenager and held many offices at Vernon Grange and Crawford County Pomona. She later joined the State and National Granges while remaining a member of the Rundells Grange in Conneautville.

Dorothy worked nearly 50 years as a Car Title Clerk for many area dealerships. Over the years she enjoyed bus trips, family gatherings, Grange conferences, and many trips to the PA Farm Show with her husband. She enjoyed going to craft shows and creating crafts, ceramics, and decorating her home for the holidays. She loved her many dogs she had over her years: two poodles, a black lab, and lastly her spaniel: Mandy.

Dorothy was married to Richard Porter of Linesville, he preceded her in death in 1994.

Dorothy is survived by her brother: Earl (Bonnie) Krider of Meadville, three nieces: Kelly Selvam of Erie; Janell (Scott) Bagley of North East; and Kendra (David) Galentine of Meadville, three great-nieces: Anjali and Aaralyn Selvam and Joy Galentine, as well as many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, INC. 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville, where visitation will be from 4 pm – 7 pm on Friday, March 8 and from 10 am – 11 am on Saturday, March 9.  A funeral service will follow at 11 am with Greg Vanderveen, officiating.  You may watch the live stream of the service here https://my.gather.app/remember/dorothy-alice-krider-porter

Private interment will take place in Linesville Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dorothy’s many Doctors, nurses, and caregivers through VNA & MMC ICU.
