Gerald Clayton Obituary

Gerald R. Clayton, 82 of Union Twp, Meadville, passed away on April 19, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. Gerald was born in Jeanette, PA on July 4, 1941 to the late Elias Russell and Clara Eleanor (Egbert) Clayton. He was a 1960 graduate of Franklin High School and went on to proudly serve his Country in the United States Air Force from 1960-1966, serving in Greenland and Stateside. After his time in the service Gerald worked for American Viscose, Greenleaf, CoinCo, DIC Tool, Werner Ladder, Talon, and retiring from Leech Industries as a Tool & Die Designer.

Gerald was a member and past president of the Meadville Archery Club, a member of the Maple Cave Flying Club, former leader of Boy Scout Troop 213, and a Silver Beaver & District Award recipient from the Boy Scouts. He was a fourth degree Black Belt Master in Tangsoodo, a member of Langundow: Lodge 46 Order of the Arrow, a quilt recipient from the Quilts of Valor, and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and beekeeper.

He married the beloved wife, Leona (Radke) Clayton on August 15, 1964, she survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Todd Clayton of Meadville, and daughter, Sheri (David) Stritch of Andover, OH, grandchildren: Elizabeth (Cody); Desiree; Emilee; Erica; Sam (Lydia); Ethan; Ashley (Devin); Melissa; and Alexis, great-grandsons: Oliver and Rowan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his sister: Marylyn (Lloyd) Jacobs.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC – MEADVILLE, 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville, where visitation will be from 4 pm – 7 pm on Tuesday, April 23, A funeral service will take place at 11 am on Wednesday, April 24, at the funeral home with Pastor Drew Henry, Pastor of Hope Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Huber Cemetery where Military Honors will be rendered by VFW Post 2006 Color Guard.

Memorials can be made in Gerald’s name to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
